Versus Battles

Versus Battles is a strategic PVP battle system where players can command their warship fleets against each other. The turn-based battles take place in tactical maps where the players move and fight along hexagon-shaped grids. These one-on-one battles allow players to come up with various tactics and strategies to attain victory, as each warship has its own unique movement and attack capabilities. There are various game types which players can master and excel in. The players can showcase their battle prowess by climbing up the Versus Battle Leaderboards which lists the best Players and Alliances in the battlefield.

The Versus Battles can be accessed by clicking on the “VS” button on the main interface. This brings up the Versus Battles Lobby window where a player can create a new battle challenge or join a challenge that another player created. Only players level 10 and above can create a game challenge, but they can accept or join game challenges created. The host player can set the conditions for the game challenge battle.

Game Conditions

Map Settings

Map – The host player can choose which map the battle will take place in. The maps vary in size and some contain obstacles such as debris or asteroids which can hamper the movement and sight range of warships.

Game Type

Players can choose from three different game types. Each game type has its own victory objective.

  • Total Annihilation – Victory goes to the first player who destroys all of his/her enemy’s warships.
  • Capture the Base – In this game type, players must capture their enemy’s base to be declared the winner. Each map has a predefined location where the bases of both sides are located. Once a player captures his enemy’s base, he will be declared the winner. To capture a base, move the ship next to the base’s hex and choose the “Dock” command to capture it. A player can also repair his damaged ships by choosing the “Dock” command while his ships are beside his base. The damaged ships will be repaired, but destroyed ships will not be restored. Players can also win if they manage to destroy all of their enemy’s warships.
  • Destroy the Flagship – During the start of every battle, each player must tag a group of his ships as his/her “Flagship” unit. Only the player will know and see which of his ships are tagged as his Flagship. Flagships gain additional health points, making them harder to destroy. In this game type, the player who destroys his enemy’s “Flagship” first is declared the winner.

Versus Battles Walkthrough

The following is a walkthrough for setting up a game in Versus Battles and commanding ships in combat:

  • A player can enter the Versus Battles Lobby by clicking on the “VS” icon on the left side of the main interface.
  • From the Lobby, players can host a PVP match by clicking on the “Host PVP Match” button or join an existing one by clicking on the “Info” button on any of the existing match invites. Only players level 10 and above can host a match but lower leveled players can join matches regardless of their level.
  • If a player is hosting, he can set the conditions, rules and game type of the match. Once he has created the match, people will see that information when they click on the “Info” button.
  • Once two players have agreed on the match conditions and clicked “Ready”, a window will pop up prompting each player to assign their ships to the deployment slots on the map. The total quantity for each ship that can be deployed on each tile will be displayed.
  • Here, the players are battling in a Non-Rated “Total Annihilation” game. The goal for each player is to wipe out all of their enemy’s ships. Player 1 won the toss coin and will have the first turn. Notice that the other parts of the map are grayed out. This is called the “Fog of War” and this will be lifted once a player moves his ships. Player 1′s turn will be over once he has moved all of his ships.
  • Player 1 clicks on one of his ships to bring out the commands he can issue to it. He clicks on “Move” which brings out indicators on the map on where his ship can be moved to. This is the ship’s “Movement Range”.
  • Once a ship has moved, the “Fog of War” will be pushed back. This is because of the ship’s “Sight Range” which is equal to it’s “Movement Range”. Class 1 ships have more movement range than higher class ships making them suitable for scouting ahead.
  • Since there are no enemy ships in sight, Player 1 will not be able to give additional orders to this ship besides “Defend”. This command ends the ship’s move.
  • After Player 1 moves all of his ships, he clicks on “End Turn” to let Player 2 start his turn.
  • A few turns have passed and Player 1 has sighted one of Player 2′s ships. His Class 1 ship has a large movement range but a low attack range, so he closes in his ship next to Player 2′s ship.
  • Since Player 2′s ship is now under the attack range of Player 1′s ship, he can now issue the “Attack” command. This will only appear if an enemy ship is in range of the ship’s attack.
  • Player 1′s Class 1 ship attacks Player 2′s ship. Since Player 2′s ship has the same attack range, the ship was able to retaliate.  Ships can only retaliate against enemies if the enemy ship is within the ship’s attack range.
  • After a series of turns, a ship can now use it’s “Special”. This command allows the ship to use a special skill which players can use to turn the tide of the battle. There are various types of special skills like deploying probes for scouting, planting mines, laser attacks and others. Here, Player 1 deploys a probe from one of his ships.
  • And we have a winner! Player 1 was able to destroy all of Player 2′s ships. Since this was a Non-rated battle, there will be no reward given and all destroyed ships during the battle will be restored. In Rated batttles, players will receive rewards, experience and battle points to increase their standing in the Leaderboards, however all ships destroyed during the battle will not be restored.

Players who participate in Rated Battles will be ranked in the Versus Battles Leaderboards on the Leaderboards section. The three categories for Versus Battles Leaderboards are Battle Points, Win/Lose Ratio and Ships Destroyed/Lost. Battle Points are gained in Ranked Battles when players do various actions during the battle such as destroying enemy ships, capturing an enemy base and others. The Leaderboards get updated every 6 hours.

Warships in Versus Battles

The warships used for Versus Battles are the same ships used in the main game.Players can only use warships that are not assigned to fleets in Versus Battles.

The stats of every warship for Versus Battles are different than the stats used for Planetary Attack. If a player has upgraded his warships in the Fleet Management section, the upgrade levels will be carried over for the Versus Battle as well.

Each warship has its own unique movement and attack range. They also have unique special attacks and abilities which can act as a trump card in battle. These special attacks are activated after a set number of turns.

Movement range is how far a ship can move in the map during its turn. When a warship moves, it pushes away the “Fog of War” which covers the map with its sight range. The sight range is equal to a ship’s movement range. After a ship has moved, if it has an enemy within its attack range, the player will be able to command it to attack. If a ship was attacked and the attacker was under its attack range, it will be able to retaliate.

Terran GH2 Greyhound, Amon’krie Warstriker, Norak Executor
