Increasing the Maximum Level of Technology
Technologies that have reached the maximum level of research can still be upgraded further by using items called the Matrix of Higher Knowledge. These items can increase the maximum technology level by up to five (5) levels past the set maximum. Players can acquire it by collecting item parts through various means and combining them to create the Matrix.
The number of items required to create a Matrix depends on the level that a player wants to create: the higher the Matrix level, the more parts needed to make one. Once a Matrix is used, it will be gone from the player’s inventory and a new one needs to be built for other Tech upgrades.
The Matrix level required for increasing the max tech level corresponds to the targeted level minus the set maximum. For example, a player wants to increase Weapons Technology to Level 22 (from Level 21); since the set maximum level for Weapons Technology is 20, a Matrix of Higher Knowledge II is needed to upgrade to level 22.
There are six (6) different item parts which are needed to create a Matrix item. These parts can be collected in different ways, but players can also purchase them from the Galactic Market. The chances of finding item parts for the Matrix item is lower than getting Colony Ship parts.
Here is the process for creating and using a Matrix of Higher Knowledge item:
- Players can find the Matrix of Higher Knowledge item recipes under the Inventory > Special > Technology Requirements. All five Matrix items are in this section. Clicking them brings up the list of the item parts required to build the chosen Matrix.
- Once they have acquired the necessary item parts for creating the Matrix item of a specified level, they can input the number of Matrix items that they want to build (a player can build multiple Matrices provided they have enough item parts to build them), and then click the “Build” button to create the item/s. The number of Matrix items you build will reflect on the “Quantity” counter next to the item description of the corresponding Matrix.
- Players can increase the maximum level of any Technology in their Research structures by clicking on the “Upgrade” button, provided they have the corresponding Matrix item needed for the max level increase.
Matrix of Higher Knowledge Parts
Here are the item parts needed for creating a Matrix of Higher Knowledge item:
Ancient Text
An ancient tablet containing knowledge which have been lost for centuries. This item part can be acquired by players when they click on Help Links for research, construction or shipbuilding posted by other players.

Advanced Research Data
Terran information databanks which store significant information gathered from across the galaxy. This item part is acquired through gifting or by sending Probes in Exploration missions.
Superprocessor System
A Terran supercomputer that can process and calculate massive quantities of data in a microsecond. Acquired by sending Probes in Exploration missions.
