As a Facebook game, Space Empires: Battle for Supremacy utilizes a variety of social features that allows players to interact more with other players and get their non-player friends to be involved with many game play actions without even playing the game. Here are some of the game’s social features:
Alliance
Starting at Level 5, a player can start or join an Alliance. An Alliance is an in-game group comprised of players. Players can look up information regarding the Alliances in the game by going to the “Alliance” section in the main taskbar. An Alliance can have up to 100 members at a time. An Alliance can also ally with other Alliances, or mark other Alliances as hostile.
Members also have positions in the Alliance. As such, only the Alliance Leader and Alliance Officers can draft members into the Alliance or decide on Alliance Diplomacy requests and have access to the Message Members system which sends a mail to all members of the Alliance.
Being under an Alliance has many benefits such as having more experienced players guide you through the game, being able to deploy fleets to defend an ally’s planet that is about to be invaded or coordinating with other members to attack your enemies. They also have exclusive use of the Alliance Chat tab in the Chat Box for easier communication and strategizing.
Chat Box
The Chat Box serves as the game’s main social hub. Here, players can chat in real-time offering tips or just talking about the game in general with other players playing the game across the globe. In case a bug or error occurs in the game, the Game Admins are continuously present in the Chat Box to monitor player concerns and issues.
There are two tabs in the Chat Box. The “General” tab is where all players can talk to each other. The Alliance tab is for players that are under an Alliance. Only respective Alliance members will be able to see everything typed in that chat tab.
Players can also buy a flag of their country that is displayed next to their name in the Chat Box. The flags are available at the Galactic Market under Special> Flags tab.
Messages
The in-game mail system in Space Empires is the Messages system. You can access the Messages section by clicking on the “Messages” icon at the main taskbar. Here, you can check mail you have received from other players in the “Inbox” tab, receive reports from in-game actions such as deployment and probe actions at the “Reports” tab and send mail to players under the “Compose” tab.
Help Links
Constructing buildings and ships and researching new technologies takes time, especially when upgrading into higher levels. Aside from speed-up items, players can request help from their Facebook friends and other players in the game with Help Links.
When a player builds a structure for example, the progress bar appears on the Active Builds section. The player gets several options on how to speed up the structure construction by clicking on the Speed Up button. Under the Speed Up options, there is a button labeled Ask for Help, and clicking this gives the player an option to post a Wall Feed that his Facebook friends can click to speed up the current construction. The amount of friends who clicked on the help links are displayed next to the “Friends Helping” text beside the relevant construction/research.
Posting this will automatically create a Help Link in the Help Links section beside the Chat Box in the main interface which can be clicked by other players. The speed-up bonus given by Facebook friends is bigger than the one given by non-Facebook friends.
If they want to post a Help Link without the Wall Post, players can try out these options based on which browser they are using:
Google Chrome
Right click on the link that starts with “
Firefox
Right click on the link that starts with “
Opera
Four clicks will highlight the link, right click and select ‘Go to webpage’. This will open in a new tab where you can copy the link and paste it on the Chat Box. The link will now appear at the Help Links section.
Internet Explorer
Right click on the link that starts with “
Invite Friends
Players can invite their Facebook friends who are not playing the game with the “Invite Friends” icon above the Help Links section. Players will be able to benefit by getting their friends to play the game. As their friend gains levels in the game, the player gets rewards such as items. The more friends you invite into the game and the more they play it, the more rewards you get!
Item Gifting
Players can send gift items to their friends through the “Free Gifts” section, which is accessible from the Main Interface. These gifts are useful items which range from speed-up boosts to resource caches. Players can send better gifts as they gain higher levels.
Gifting Rewards
Players who send gifts to their friends can get a chance to receive fantastic rewards through the “Rewards” button in the “Free Gifts” section.
In the “Rewards” window, there are three (3) gates that need to be unlocked, the “Antares Gate”, “Betelguese Gate” and the “Polaris Gate”. These three gates have ten (10) locks that get unlatched when the gifts players have sent are accepted by their friends. Once all locks are unlatched, users can claim their reward.
Mechanics:
- For every 12 gifts accepted by active players, 1 lock gets unlatched.
- For every 1 gift accepted by inactive players, 3 locks will get unlatched.
The rewards they can choose from are rare item parts such as “Conquering Culture”, “Enlightenment Culture” and “Modular Construction Schematics”.
Comm Channel
The Comm Channel is a way for players to send their comments, suggestions or bug reports directly to the Game Admins to help make their experience in the game better. Players can access this section by clicking on the “Comm Channel” icon on the left side taskbar.
